Life’s adventure captured in a photo
Beach Photo Session Options and Entrance Fees
How does this work?
What should I wear?
Coordinated Colors and Patterns -
Light Colors: Opt for whites, pastels, or light blues that complement the beach setting.
Avoid Loud Patterns: Stick to simple designs to keep the focus on the family and the scenery. Best to avoid graphic-t's or items with bold logos.
Avoid Fine Patterns: Small checks, stripes, and tight patterns can cause a moiré effect, which appears as a wavy or distorted pattern in photos. Choose solid colors or larger patterns to avoid this issue.
Coordinated Outfits: Choose outfits that complement each other without being too matchy-matchy.
Comfortable Clothing:
Flowy Dresses for Women: Perfect for a casual and romantic look.
Casual Attire for Men: Think shorts or or khakis if pants and light shirts for a relaxed vibe.
Comfortable Clothes for Kids: Ensure kids wear something they can move around in easily.
Barefoot or Sandals: Barefoot looks natural on the beach; if wearing shoes, opt for casual sandals.
Hair and Makeup:
Natural Look: Go for a light and natural makeup style.
Hair: Keep it simple and manageable, styled so the style would be resilient should there is more than an ocean breeze.
Layer Up:
For cooler moments depending on the time of year, a light cardigan sweater or shawl may be nice to have on hand.
Week Before Tips
Rest Well: Ensure everyone gets a good night’s sleep before the shoot to look fresh and energized.
Hydrate: Drink plenty of water leading up to the session to keep your skin looking its best.
Grooming: Take care of haircuts at least a week before in case someone needs time to adjust. Shaving and nail care a day or two before the session. A natural nail color is a good choice.
Outfits: Finalize selections, press + hang

Willard Beach, South Portland
Willard Beach is a 4 acre beach that runs between Fisherman’s Point and the campus of Southern Maine Community College. A stroll on the beach offers marvelous views of Casco Bay and nearby islands. The thoroughfare immediately in front of the beach is the most popular route for boats entering and leaving Portland Harbor. You are apt to see a large variety of commercial and recreational boats coming and going. In the summer months, visitors can enjoy city provided amenities including a beach house with restrooms, a snack bar and showers. A nearby lot off of Willow Street offers parking.
Walkers can combine their stroll on the beach with a hike along the adjacent Spring Point Shoreway, which provides opportunities to explore Fort Preble and Spring Point Light.
If you are arriving by car, the best place to park is in the lot located on Willow Street. If that lot is full, (a common occurrence in summer months), you may want to try to find a spot on the SMCC campus (take Fort Road all the way to the end).
